Neste artigo, discuto as definições atribuídas ao xitiki, conhecido como uma prática endógena de poupança e crédito rotativo bastante comum na cidade de Maputo, Moçambique. Partindo de uma discussão sobre as implicações de se traduzir a palavra xitiki por poupança, o objectivo deste artigo é mostrar como as definições e descrições existentes na bibliografia sobre este tipo de prática, não só em Moçambique mas um pouco por todo o mundo, são limitadoras e não dão conta dos significados articulados e das relações estabelecidas por estas práticas.
In this paper, through a bibliographic review, I discuss the definitions attributed to xitiki, known as an endogenous practice of rotating savings and credit (informal) common in the city of Maputo, Mozambique. The aim of this paper is to show how the definitions and descriptions found in the literature on this type of practice, not only in Mozambique but throughout the world, are limiting and do not take into account the articulated meanings and relations established by these practices, which extrapolate the economic dimension.
