This work had as objective to evaluate the areas of permanentpreservation throughout the of the waterships of the Basin of NhapindazalRiver, City of Irati, Paraná, the images of satellite SPOT with spaceresolution of 5 meters were used. Techniques of geographical informationsystems and bucket sort were utilized, beyond field work. Some parametersof segmentation had been tested. The classes of use and occupation of theland, used for the classification had been defined after the works of fieldwith GPS use and segmentation. The results had been the following ones:Mixing Forest (126,97 ha), Area Partially Preserved (18.36) and IrregularOccupation (33,07 have). The study still sample that the area of Mixing Forest represents 71% of the total of the Permanent Preservation Area ofthe Basin. The results had demonstrated that, although the Basin of theNhapindazal to be very next to the urban area still reasonably is preserved
