O dualismo de propriedades é a tese segundo a qual existe dois tipos essencialmente diferentes de propriedades no mundo. De um lado temos corpos e cérebros, explicáveis e constituídos por propriedades físicas. De outro, temos a mente, especificamente a consciência, que pode ser totalmente explicada somente se recorrermos a propriedades mentais irredutíveis a propriedades físicas, ou propriedades fenomênicas. O objetivo deste artigo é elucidar e defender o dualismo de propriedades. Para isso, apresento e discuto algumas teses a ele associadas, assim como seus problemas, e argumento a favor do dualismo de propriedades por meio da defesa do argumento do conhecimento contra algumas objeções a ele opostas.
Property dualism is the thesis according to which there are two essentially different types of properties in the world. On the one side, there are bodies and brains, explainable and constituted by physical properties. On the other side, there is the mind, specifically consciousness, that can be fully explained only if we appeal to mental properties irreducible to the physical, or phenomenal properties. The aim of this article is to elucidate and defend property dualism. For that, I present and discuss some theses associated with it, its problems and I argue for property dualism by defending the knowledge argument against some opposing objections.
