Demonstra-se com este artigo a importância das rugosidades palatinas como meio de identificação de um indivíduo, quando outras técnicas mais usuais não encontram amparo, ou oportunidade de aplicação. As classificações a que as rugosidades estão sujeitas tornam-se obstáculos ao seu uso rotineiro, havendo por isso, a necessidade de uma padronização a ser amplamente aceita. A esfera civil, com relação principalmente ao ressarcimento de danos, e a esfera penal ou criminal, com relação à identificação de suspeitos e vítimas de crimes, são áreas de atuação que se revestem de grande importância a trazer mais informações dos indivíduos envolvidos.

It is demonstrated with this article the importance of the palatine rugae as middle of an individual’s identification, when other more usual techniques don’t find help, or application opportunity. The classifications the one that the rugae is subject becomes obstacles to it routine use, having for that, the need of standardization to be accepted thoroughly. The civil sphere, with relationship mainly to the payment for the damages, and the sphere criminal, regarding the suspects’ identification and victims of crimes, they are areas of performance that are covered from great importance to bring the involved individuals’ more information.
