A área de saúde é uma das mais crÃticas do Brasil e os avanços nas Tecnologias da Informação (TI) são essenciais para a disseminação do conhecimento médico, melhorando a assistência ao paciente, diminuindo a margem de erro e aumentando a qualidade da informação referente à história clÃnica do individuo. Uma das ferramentas de TI que tem evoluÃdo rapidamente e que vem sendo adotada cada vez mais pelas instituições de saúde de todo mundo é o Prontuário Eletrônico do Paciente (PEP). Este artigo descreve os impactos causados pela introdução do PEP na Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Belo Horizonte (SMSA-BH), em Minas Gerais, que integra toda a rede de saúde do municÃpio ligada ao SUS. Através de uma pesquisa qualitativa, procurou-se avaliar a influência do PEP sobre a prestação da assistência à saúde, sobre o trabalho dos profissionais, sobre a relação profissional-paciente, sobre a gestão de recursos disponÃveis e também na tomada de decisão clinica e gerencial. Os resultados da pesquisa mostraram que a introdução do PEP apresenta uma série de dificuldades e desafios, embora os benefÃcios e vantagens sobre o prontuário em papel sejam reconhecidos na literatura e comprovados pelas declarações da maioria dos entrevistados.
The health area is one of most critical in Brazil and the advances in Information Technology (TI)are essential for the dissemination of the medical knowledge, improving the assistance to the patient, diminishing the margein of error and increasing the quality of the reffering information to the clinical history of the person. One of the tools of TI that has evolved quickly and who comes being adopted each time more for the institutions of health all over the world is the Eletronic Health Record (PEP). This article describes the impacts caused for the introduction of the PEP on the Belo Horizonte's Municipal Health System, which integrate the whole health network connected to the SUS (Unified Health System). By using a qualitative approach, an exploratory research was performed, through a case study, intending to evaluate the influence of the PEP upon the health service, the health professionals' work, the doctor-patient relationship, the manegement of the available resources and also in managerial and clinical decision making. The results of the research had shown that the introduction of the PEP presents a series of difficulties and challenges, although the benefits and advantages upon the health record in paper are recognized in literature and proven by the declarations of the majority of the interviewed ones.
