A osteomielite é uma inflamação óssea crônica frequentemente relatada em mandíbula de bovinos. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi relatar um caso de osteomielite maxilar causada pela T. pyogenes em vaca Girolando. O animal foi encontrado apresentando tumefação na região maxilar direita de aproximadamente 10 cm de diâmetro, rígida, fistulada e drenando secreção purulenta. Foi realizada radiografia do crânio e cultura microbiana. O tratamento foi instituído, após 14 o aumento de volume maxilar reduziu consideravelmente e passados 4 meses, a vaca encontrava-se sem lesão. Pode-se concluir acerca da importância da realização de exames complementares para obtenção do diagnóstico definitivo e consequente prognóstico.
Osteomyelitis is a chronic bone inflammation frequently reported in cattle’s jaw. The objective of the present study was to report a case of maxillary osteomyelitis caused by T. pyogenes in a Girolando cow. The animal was found presenting swelling in the right maxillary region measuring approximately 10 cm in diameter, rigid, fistulated and draining purulent secretion. It was performed microbial culture and radiographs of the skull. The treatment was established, after 14 days maxillary swelling reduced considerably and after 4 months, the lesion was completely regressed. It is possible to conclude about the importance of performing complementary tests to obtain the definitive diagnosis and following prognosis.
