O presente estudo parte de uma abordagem sincrônica dos principais elementos constitutivos do estudo contemporâneo do fenômeno religioso, com especial menção das correntes fenomenológicas na abordagem deste importante fenômeno humano, que é a Religião, para, em seguida, numa segunda parte, proceder a uma análise reflexiva das principais incidências relativas ao fenômeno religioso a partir de uma das suas principais manifestações, a saber, a oração. Analisam-se, assim, diversas formas de oração, as quais vão desde a sua forma radical manifestada no silêncio até à sua manifestação ritual no culto, para depois, a partir dessa análise, se proceder a uma breve identificação dos principais perigos e ameaças, inerentes ao processo ideológico, e consequente fundamentalismo, em que pode decair o fenômeno religioso propriamente dito. Desta forma, procura-se mostrar o poder criativo da tensão que se dá entre o Ãdolo e o Ãcone na sua respectiva representatividade daquilo que, na sua essência e manifestação, constitui o fenômeno religioso no seu todo.
Starting with an account of some of the main elements that are constitutive of the contemporary approach to the phenomena of religion, whereby special attention is given to the phenomenological approaches to the phenomenon of Religion as such, this paper proceeds with a reflexive analysis of some of the crucial analytic aspects of religion on the basis of a philosophical study of one of its most universal manifestations, i.e., the phenomenon of Prayer. We shall analyze different forms of prayer, which range from their manifestation in the Prayer of Silence to their manifestation in the Cultic expression of Prayer. Following this analysis, attention will be given to the need for an identification of some of the dangers and menaces attached to an ideological or fundamentalist approach to Religion. The paper also shows the creative power underlying the tension that occurs between what Jean-Luc Marion calls the Idolatric and the Iconic, since in this very tension we can explore the true dimension of what Religion is in its essence and manifestations.
