Este artigo revisita a história e dialoga com informações sobre o interesse do homem pela linguagem humana, do querer dele em entender como se processa o fenômeno da língua. Começa o diálogo com o olhar perscrutador de Matos e Silva (2008) sobre a Linguística Histórica e, a partir daí, adentra com dados do século IV a.C., passando por Panini (apud Faraco, 2005), pelas gêneses e desenvolvimentos das chamadas gramáticas especulativa, geral e comparativa. Faz um breve “passeio” pelo estruturalismo saussuriano, pelo gerativismo chomskyano, indo até a terceira onda da sociolinguística laboviana e o crescente movimento dos estudos sociolinguísticos no Brasil.
This paper revisits the history and dialogues with information about man's interest in human language, his desire to understand how the phenomenon of language is processed. It begins the dialogue with the searching look of Matos & Silva on Historical Linguistics and, from there, enters with data from the fourth century BC, through Panini, by the genesis and developments of so-called speculative, general and comparative grammars. It makes a brief "walk" by Saussurean structuralism, by Chomskyan gerativism, going to the third wave of labovian sociolinguistics and the growing movement of sociolinguistic studies in Brazil.
