O texto examina a trajetória do trabalho docente na educação superior e evidencia os atuais sinais de mudança na constituição do referido trabalho. No percurso investigativo, apresenta um panorama histórico da educação superior no Brasil e do trabalho docente, bem como revisa parte da literatura que discute o tema na atualidade. Conclui que as políticas educacionais, historicamente, atuaram como indutoras de mudanças, que o trabalho docente, no presente, apresenta singularidades e que as alterações na constituição desse trabalho tendem a repercutir na docência e nos objetivos educacionais.
The text examines the trajectory of the teacher work in higher education and highlights the current signs of changes in the production of that work. In the investigative way, it presents a historical overview of higher education in Brazil and of the teacher work and also reviews part of the literature that discusses the topic today. It concludes that the educational policies, historically speaking, acted as change inducers and that teaching currently, presents unique alterations that tend to reflect on the teaching and on the educational aims.
