Neste artigo é apresentada uma reflexão sobre a vida social e cultural no Estado do Tocantins,
com ênfase para as relações existentes entre as atividades artÃsticas desenvolvidas ates e após
a criação do Estado. A partir da análise dos processos culturais ocorridos na região à luz de
Cândido e Bourdieu, conclui-se que a produção o campo das artes visuais e da atividade
literária no Tocantins passa por um processo de consolidação, resultante da Ãntima relação que
essas produções mantêm com a polÃtica, a história e a vida social do Estado. Esse processo,
por sua vez, torna mais interessante a atividade artÃstica no Estado que, apesar de encontrar-se
tão distante dos grandes centros literários, contribui para o enriquecimento da produção
cultural na contemporaneidade.
In the article we reflect upon about the social and cultural life in the State of Tocantins, with
emphasis on the existent relationships among the artistic activities developed before and after
the creation of the State. Starting out with the analysis of the cultural processes happened in
the area in the light of Candido’s theories and Bourdieu’s, it is concluded that the production
in the field of the visual arts and of the literary activity in Tocantins goes through a
consolidation process, resulting from the close relationship that those productions maintain
with the politics, the history and the social life of the State. That process, on the other hand,
turns the artistic activity more interesting in the State. In spite of being so distant from the
great literary centers , the artistic activity in the state of Tocantins contributes to the
enrichment of the cultural production in the contemporaneity.
