O ensaio reúne as contribuições da historiografia
recente para a compreensão das relações
entre Budismo, marcialidade e ascese na
tradição marcial do Mosteiro de Shaolin, tradicional
centro de cultivo de artes marciais e
um dos berços da espiritualidade Chan,
localizado no Norte da China. Para responder
às interrogações centrais sobre a relação entre
marcialidade, espiritualidade budista Chan e
cultura chinesa, recorreu-se à literatura épica,
a chamada Wushia, Ã filmografia que abordou
o tema e a entrevistas com mestres chineses
migrantes e praticantes de Kung-Fu no Brasil.
The essay combines the contributions of recent
historiography to understand the relationship
between Buddhism and martial asceticism in
the martial tradition of the Shaolin Monastery,
the traditional center of culture of martial arts
and one of the cradles of spirituality Chan, located
in Northern China. To answer the central
questions about the relationship between
martial Chan Buddhist spirituality and Chinese
culture, appealed to the epic literature, called
Wushi, to the films that addressed the subject
and interviews with Chinese masters migrants
and practitioners of Kung-Fu in Brazil.
