O índice perímetro escrotal/peso reúne dois importantes critérios de seleção para bovinos de corte, e sua utilização favorece a identificação de animais superiores. Pretendeu-se com este estudo estimar os parâmetros genéticos do índice perímetro escrotal/peso padronizado aos 365 e 450 dias de idade (IND365 e IND450). Utilizou-se dados de bovinos Nelore criados na Bahia. Para construção dos IND365 e IND450 foi realizada uma proporção do perímetro escrotal e do peso, ajustados as idades padrões. Para estimar os parâmetros utilizaram-se dois modelos para o IND365, e um para IND450. As herdabilidades diretas para as características variaram entre 0,20–0,43, indicando que as características apresentam potencial de incremento de desempenho pela seleção.
The scrotal circumference/weight index gathers two important selection criteria for beef cattle, and its use favors the identification of superior animals. Aimed of this study was estimate the genetic parameters of the standardized scrotal circumference/weight index at 365 and 450 days of age (SWI365 and SWI450). Data used were from Nellore cattle bred in Bahia. For the construction of the SWI365 and SWI450, a ratio between the scrotal circumference and weight was performed, both adjusting the standard ages. To estimate the parameters, two models were used for SWI365, and one for SWI450. Direct heritabilities for the traits ranged from 0.20–0.43, indicating that they have the potential to increase performance through selection.
