Analisa-se a presença dos estudos quantitativos junto à ciência. Descrevem-se os antecedentes históricos e conceitos referentes ao campo da cientometria. São abordadas as suas leis e os seus indicadores, mostrando a importância de cada um destes para a avaliação da ciência. Sugere-se a criação de novos indicadores à luz das necessidades atuais decorrentes da expansão da ciência, da tecnologia e da inovação e a busca de alternativas para melhorar o posicionamento e a visibilidade das produções brasileiras no contexto da atividade científica mundial.
It analyze the presence of quantitative studies with the science. It describes the historical background and concepts related to the field of scientometrics. It covers the laws and their indicators, showing the importance of each of these elements for the evaluation of science. It is suggested the creation of new indicators in the light of current needs resulting from the expansion of science, technology and innovation and the search for alternatives to improve the positioning and visibility of Brazilian productions into the world scientific activity.
