Apresento aqui a imigração sÃria e libanesa para a cidade de São LuÃs a
partir de 1885, quando se registram os primeiros imigrantes desembarcando no
porto da capital maranhense, até o final da década de 1920. Neste trabalho, discuto
a chegada destes na capital e a escolha de muitos pelo interior do estado. A difÃcil
escolha em migrar e os percalços que essa opção impunha aos viajantes.
I present here the Syrian and Lebanese immigration to the city of St. Louis from 1885, when he
recorded the first immigrants arriving in the port of São LuÃs, until the late 1920s. This essay discusses their
arrival in the capital and the choice of many within the state. The difficult choice in migrating and obstacles that
this option required for travelers.
