Este trabalho discorre sobre o cuidado com o portador de sofrimento psÃquico dentro do seu
ambiente familiar. Será realizada uma breve revisão teórica sobre a reforma psiquiátrica e o papel
da famÃlia como cuidadora, sendo abordados aspectos como a sobrecarga e as dificuldades
encontradas pelas famÃlias; as redes de apoio e o suporte aos familiares; o impacto causado pela
doença mental na famÃlia, entre outros. O texto tem como “pano de fundo†a experiência do
Grupo de Familiares existente no Centro de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS I) de uma cidade de
pequeno porte do interior do estado do Rio Grande do Sul.
This paper discusses the care of the patient with psychological distress within the family
environment. There will be a brief theoretical review of the psychiatric amendment and the role
of the family as caregiver, being addressed issues such as overload and difficulties encountered
by families, support networks and support to relatives, the impact of mental illness in the family,
among others. The text has as the "background" the experience of the Group of Relatives, which
exists in the Center of Phychosocial Attention (CAPS I) in a small town in the state of Rio
Grande do Sul.
