O objetivo deste artigo é examinar as propostas e afirmações a respeito da identidade nacional na historiografia latino-americana a partir do movimento da independência no começo do século XIX e no perÃodo imediatamente pós-emancipação. No artigo discutiu-se a temática da identidade nacional, da nossa especificidade, das dificuldades de ordenamento de identidades consideradas como originárias; temas constantes na historiografia e nas discussões polÃticas latino-americanas nesse perÃodo.
The aim of this paper is to examine the proposals and statements regarding the national identity
in Latin American historiography, from the independence movement, in the early nineteenth
century, and the period immediately after independence. The article intends to reveal regularities
in the region’s historiographical discourse, taking into consideration some excerpts of documents
produced by classical authors, concerning of the origins of nation and national identities in Latin
American 19th century. The questions about the origins of Nations, the obstacles to be overcome
by to its full establishment and adoption of external models will be especially considered.
