Por meio de estudo bibliográfico o presente artigo retoma a história do amor, do casamento e da sexualidade, explicitando como durante um longo período histórico negou-se a possibilidade de escolha do parceiro, sendo essa tarefa atribuída à família, com vistas a assegurar os benefícios econômicos gerados a partir da união matrimonial. Essa configuração sofreu notáveis transformações no século XVIII, impulsionando, a despeito dos aspectos positivos decorrentes da liberdade de escolha do(a) parceiro(a), inquietudes e tensões na forma de se viver o amor, o casamento e a sexualidade. Tendo em vista tais alterações, polemiza-se o modo como se engendram as relações afetivoamorosas, especialmente na sociedade do espetáculo.
Through bibliographical study, this article resumes the history of love, marriage and sexuality, explaining how during a long historical period one was denied the possibility of choice of a partner, as this task was assigned to the family, in order to ensure the economic benefits generated from the marriage union. This setting has undergone remarkable transformations in the eighteenth century, promoting, despite the positive aspects stemming from the freedom of choice of the partner, concerns and tensions in the way of living love, marriage and sexuality. In view of these changes, the way in which the affective-loving relationships engender is polemicized, especially in the spectacle society.
